The hammer dulcimer is one of the oldest instruments still played today, and versions of it are found in almost every country in the world. It dates back to biblical times and is mentioned in the book of Daniel 3:10...”and every man that shall hear the sound of the coronet, flute, harp, psaltery and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship...” Music is made on the hammer dulcimer by striking it’s strings with small wooden hammers (much like a piano) and is, in fact, the instrument from which the piano evolved. The word dulcimer comes from the Latin “Dulcis” (sweet) and “Melos” (song).
